History of the Match:

The Steel Challenge founded in 1981 is a speed shooting competition governed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) that consists of eight standardized stages with steel targets in three sizes; small circular, large circular and square targets. Competitors are scored solely by the time it takes them to complete each stage, and the match winner is the competitor with the lowest overall time.

Steel Challenge has many similarities with IPSC, but has a more TV- and spectator friendly format because of simpler rules and the stages being the same from year to year. Because of this, Steel Challenge has become a place where speed records are set and broken. The annual World Championship called the World Speed Shooting Championships (WSSC) draws shooters from around the world. (source Wikipedia).

Austrian Competition shooter Peter Paul Ploner took the idea to Europe and started the European Steelchallenge begin 2000 in Lienz Austria at the foot of the imposing Dolomite mountains. The match was visited by shooters from all over Europe. Unfortunately the Austrian organizer of the European Steelchallenge had to shut down his shooting range because of environmental reasons. This happened in 2006.

The Dutch Action Shooter Hans Wigger, who helped Peter Paul for several years with the sponsorship of the Match, could not stand it to see this Match disappear in Europe and he started in 2017 a Dutch Steelchallenge Match. Aldo they do not have the beautiful Dolomite Mountains as a background and need to shoot this kind of Matches indoor, Hans and his team still set down a well-organized Match.

This Match was such a success that the organization team planned the first European Steelchallenge Match in the Netherlands in 2008. Every year since is Winterswijk during Ascension weekend the place for the European Steelchallenge.
